Check The Scoreboard
I needed to lose around 25 pounds.
The first few years of building our business and raising our family were stressful.
I had lost weight before and I hated being that guy.
The guy that starts the New Year with a diet or a cleanse, only to need it again next year.
I hated being a statistic.
As our business started to grow and scale, it became clear to me how to make ideas a true reality.
Numbers.
We had no money when we started.
One client paying us $1,000 a month is what we started with, and we had just finished grad school so it wasn’t like our savings account was that impressive.
Sara would tell me every month how much I needed to close in retainers.
I have shared this story before with people, it was my Michael Jordan moment.
I hit every number she told me.
Why?
Numbers didn’t lie to me, they were unemotional truths.
I worked passionately, but the more I looked at numbers the more unemotional they made me.
You do have this much money, and you do need to close 3 more accounts at X price.
I looked at our money everyday.
So I started stepping on the scale in 2019.
Everyday.
The scale read 180 in 2019.
My goal was 155.
I started running and tracking mile times.
I noticed how much work it took to lose 300 calories and how fast you could eat it back.
It was all math.
The more numbers I looked at, the more automatic the math became.
Numbers are your actions.
I wrote down 155 in my notebook in 2019, and in 2025 it will still be in my notebook and I still step on the scale everyday.
It read 156.2 this morning.
Step on the scale, tell yourself the truth.
The numbers change in direct proportion to the food you eat, the people you hang out with, and the conversations you have.
“Numbers don’t lie, check the scoreboard.”
